Holidays

During the year holidays are given as for the general public. One School Council Holiday is given in lieu of Melbourne Cup Day. This date will be notified to parents early in the year.
Four days are gazetted each year when children are not required to attend school. These are called Curriculum Days and Professional Development Days and are used by the teachers and parents to review the curriculum, to update their teaching approaches and to plan curriculum programs for the students.
Notice of these dates will be published in the school newsletter with ample notice being given.

School Strategic Plan

Chiltern Primary School has developed a Strategic Plan outlining the goals and priorities of our school community over a four-year period. Copies of this plan are downloadable from our home page. This plan addresses the school's priorities for the period 2007 - 2010 in relation to Student learning, Student Engagement & Wellbeing and Student Pathways and Transitions.

The priority areas for the new charter are improving the learning outcomes for writing across Years P - 6 . During 2007, the school is undertaking self evaluation leading to the development of a new strategic plan (in alignment with other cluster schools).

Student Code of Conduct

All parents are issued with a copy of the Student Code of Conduct on enrolment. This plan sets out the way in which the school addresses the needs of all children. It also sets out procedures for discipline within the playground, classroom and on school excursions and camps. All parents should read this and discuss it with your child.  The Code of conduct will be reviewed during 2008.

School Council

The Chiltern Primary School Council is an elected body of parents and staff who are the governing body of the school.  The School Council determines the educational policies and directions of the school and has responsibility for maintaining and developing the school buildings and grounds.

The School Council has two Sub-committees and Working Groups which have specific roles in the administration of the school.  Parent involvement is encouraged on these sub committees and areas include, School Environment, which encompasses responsibility for the buildings and grounds and school policies and Accountability and Management, which is responsible for finances and reporting procedures. Parents are encouraged to become part of the Sub-committees and associated Working Groups.

Elections for School Council are held each February with all parents, guardians and staff being eligible to vote and nominate for positions.

Parent Participation

At Chiltern Primary School we strive to build a strong relationship between home and school to maximise learning opportunities. The involvement of parents at Chiltern Primary School is welcome and their participation and assistance in school programs and activities is greatly appreciated and valued.

Parents are encouraged to assist during class times. Involvement in the Literacy program, especially in the Junior Unit is most welcome. Programs, such as the Classroom Helpers program and Hearing Readers program, that offers assistance to parents who wish to provide support in classrooms are organised each year.

During the year the school may be involved in special programs and activity days, in which parents may be invited to contribute to and assist with, to ensure such days are successful.

Parents may also be asked to support the school in fundraising activities that are organised throughout the year.
